Second Armenian soldier killed on Azerbaijani border within past 24 hours
Arman Akopyan, a conscript soldier, was mortally wounded in an Armenian position located in the Gegarkunik Region during a shootout with Azerbaijani militaries. The Azerbaijani party also has losses, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated; however, this information was refuted by Baku.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 16, the Armenian MoD reported the death of Vaan Tatosyan, a senior warrant officer, who was shot dead by an Azerbaijani sniper.
The second Armenian serviceman perished within the last 24 hours as a result of a shootout with Azerbaijani militaries. Arman Akopyan, a conscript soldier, was mortally wounded in a position in the Gegarkunik Region, the Armenian MoD reported on August 16.
At about 5:10 p.m. Moscow time, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces shelled the Armenian positions located in the Gegarkunik Region from different-calibre weapons, after which an intense shootout broke out, during which the above 19-year-old soldier was killed, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the press service of the Armenian MoD.
"As a result of the retaliatory actions, the enemy has also suffered losses – at least three dead and wounded servicemen," said an MoD's source.
In its turn, the Azerbaijani MoD has refuted the information about its losses. "During the day, the Armenian Armed Forces have shelled the positions of the Azerbaijani Army from different directions. The disseminated information about the alleged losses of our units has nothing to do with reality," reads the message posted in the official Telegram channel of the Azerbaijani MoD.
