Residents of Northern Caucasus mark Kosta Khetagurov's 162nd birthday
Memorable events dedicated to the birthday of Kosta Khetagurov, a poet, a painter and the founder of the Ossetian literature, were held at the museum-estate in Stavropol.
Kosta (Konstantin) Levanovich Khetagurov (1859-1906) is the founder of the Ossetian literature, a poet, an educator, a sculptor and a painter. It is believed that he stood at the origins of the literary Ossetian language.
On October 15, an event dedicated to Kosta Khetagurov's 162nd birthday was held at the museum-estate of Vasily Smirnov, a Stavropol painter, who was a drawing teacher for the Ossetian painter and poet, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported.
As part of the commemoration party, a show of ancient Alanian costumes, which the re-designer, Elena Korzh, managed to recreate, was held; poetry in the Ossetian language was recited, as well as the performance of ethnic music on folk Ossetian instruments.
After the concert, the audience went to the monument to Kosta Khetagurov, located not far from the museum-estate, and laid flowers thereto.
