Azerbaijan and Armenia announce truce with Russia's mediation

The fighting in the area of Azerbaijani-Armenian border has stopped after negotiations of the heads of the Ministries of Defence (MoDs) of the two countries with Sergey Shoigu, the head of the Russian MoD, the latter has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on Tuesday (November 16) the Azeri MoD announced an attempt of Armenian soldiers to capture the heights in the Kelbadjar and Lachin Districts, while Armenia accused Azerbaijan of attempting to advance its troops on the border. The parties also exchanged accusations of artillery shelling. According to Baku, two Azerbaijani servicemen were wounded; and the Armenian MoD reported that four Armenian soldiers were wounded and several other militaries were killed, and 12 Armenian soldiers were taken prisoners of war (POWs).

The Armenian MoD has announced a ceasefire on the Armenian border with the mediation of the Russian side. "So far, it is known about the death of one military – Meruzhan Arutyunyan, a contract soldier born in 1991," says the message. The number of wounded persons is being specified. Another 12 Armenian soldiers were captured POWs by Azerbaijan.
