At trial, prosecutor finds it difficult to explain check of HRC “Memorial”*

At the preliminary hearing on the claim of the Prosecutor’s Office for the liquidation of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial”*, a plaintiff’s representative appeared to be unable to explain on what basis the HRC was subjected to a prosecutors’ check.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 8, the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit to liquidate the HRC “Memorial”*, considering that the NGO justified extremism and terrorism.

Today, the Moscow City Court has started a preliminary hearing on the claim filed by the Prosecutor’s Office.

At the court hearing, it turned out that the arguments of the Prosecutor’s Office include eight decisions of the Tverskoy Court of Moscow, but no pages with the substantive provisions. Moreover, advocate Maria Eismont requested the court to find out on what basis the prosecutors’ check had been carried out. The advocate has noted that “we do not have the information, although almost a year has already passed.” “The judge asks the plaintiff on what basis the prosecutors’ check had been carried out. The plaintiff sadly says that he cannot explain now, but he will present the explanation by the next court hearing,” reads the shorthand report posted on the Telegram channel of the Human Rights Centre.
