Georgian opposition resumes actions for Saakashvili's liberation

On December 8, about two thousand supporters of the oppositional "United National Movement" (UNM) Party held a protest action near the residence of Salome Zurabishvili, the President of Georgia, demanding to set Mikheil (Mikhail) Saakashvili free. Failing to achieve a meeting with her, they threatened to switchover to tougher protest forms.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Georgian opposition is periodically holding protest actions demanding to release Mikhail Saakashvili.

On December 8, supporters of the oppositional UNM Party held a rally near the residence of the Georgian President in Tbilisi, where they demanded to set Mikhail Saakashvili free.

Nunuka Ordoliani, one of the protesters, voiced out the opposition's demand that Salome Zurabishvili, the Georgian President, should come out to the crowd at 3:00 p.m. local time to discuss the issue of pardoning Saakashvili. However, despite the opposition's ultimatum, the President failed to come out to protesters, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported.

After that, Ms Ordoliani announced that the opposition intends to change the form of their protest actions. "Salome Zurabishvili has missed her historic chance; therefore, we are moving on to other protest methods," Nunuka Ordoliani has stated, adding that specific methods of struggle will be announced later.
