Court fines Boromangnaev for insulting Putin
The Elista City Court has fined Batyr Boromangnaev, the chairman of the Kalmyk branch of the "Yabloko" Party, by 30,000 roubles for his post in social networks about "Putin's Russia". The court found that the oppositionist's statements are offending the honour and dignity of the Russian president. Boromangnaev intends to appeal against this decision.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the police has accused Batyr Boromangnaev of petty hooliganism for reposting in the online group "Republic of Kalmykia" on the Facebook his earlier publication of 2018, in which he described "Putin's Russia" as a state, "where human rights and freedoms are not respected but are totally violated."
Now, the Elista City Court has found Batyr Boromangnaev guilty of committing an offense under Part 3 of Article 20.1 of the Code of Administrative Offences (known as KoAP), Boromangnaev himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on December 10.
"Since I called the 'Putin's Russia' a repressive and police state, the court came to the absurd, in my opinion, conclusion that I had offended Putin's personal dignity," said the head of the Kalmyk branch of the "Yabloko" Party.
Boromangnaev intends to appeal against the ruling of the Elista City Court.
