Native from Stavropol Territory sentenced for preparing terror act in Grozny

The Military Court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced a minor girl from the Stavropol Territory to 6 years in an educational colony, having found her guilty of preparing a terror act in Grozny.

According to investigators, in October 2020, the 16-year-old girl "joined, through a social network, an organized criminal grouping created by a resident of Chechnya who lives abroad." Investigators have treated the girl's "radical viewpoints" as the motive for joining the grouping.

"The aim of the grouping was to commit terror acts aimed to destabilize the activities of bodies of power. In October 2020, the convict informed the organizer of the grouping about her desire to commit a terror act by self-explosion. After that, they drafted a plan and defined the time and place of the terror act," says the website of the Investigating Department for Chechnya of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The plan assumed that the girl would come to Grozny, take an explosive device from the hideout and activate it in a crowded place, investigators assert. However, at the entrance to a café, she was stopped by a law enforcer, who demanded to show her documents. The girl tried to detonate the bomb, but the explosion failed: FSB officers had found the hideout in advance and replaced the explosive device with a dummy.
