After return from Syria, Dagestani children placed under quarantine

After medical examination, nine children evacuated from Damascus, will be sent to their relatives in Dagestan, Maria Lvova-Belova, the plenipotentiary for children's rights under the Russian President, has informed. By the children's arrival, their relatives document custody and receive the right to benefits and social welfare, said Marina Yezhova, the children's Ombudsperson of Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April, 2021, a total of 44 children were brought to Russia from the Middle East, including those who had been taken there from Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria and the Stavropol Territory.

"Eight children have been returned from the camps, plus one from the orphanage in Damascus. Their age is from six to 17 years; all are from Dagestan," the TASS quotes the Ombudsperson as saying.

The work with the children returned from the armed conflict zone follows the approved algorithm, Ms Yezhova has explained. "After identifying the children and their citizenship, they were brought to Russia. The next stage is quarantine and medical care; infectious disease specialists give their conclusions that children are not infection carriers, including coronavirus," she has added.

Further, a complete examination is carried out. Healthy children are discharged and handed over to relatives.

The Ombudsperson has noted that in Dagestan, all the children returned from Syria since 2017 are with their relatives – as a rule, with their grandparents.

Such children may experience psychological and socialization problems, said Irek Mukiev, a psychologist. According to his story, the task is to create the healthiest atmosphere for the child.
