Ingush activists urge court to side with "Memorial"*

The Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial"* has repeatedly helped Ingush activists and other residents of Russia and was often the only organization that claimed violations of their rights, the activists, Bagautdin Myakiev and Isropil Nalgiev, have pointed out in their video messages. They called on the court to reject the lawsuit of the prosecutor's office demanding to liquidate the HRC "Memorial"*.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the next court session on the liquidation of the HRC "Memorial"* is scheduled for today.

Bagautdin Myakiev, who is serving his sentence under the case of the rally in Magas in 2019, has recorded a video message in support of the "Memorial"*. He posted it in his Facebook page on December 22. "The 'Memorial'* is the only organization that covered the trial of the rally in Magas. It's the only organization that truthfully and comprehensively covered our trials and what is happening in this criminal case from the initiation thereof and up to the verdict. I appeal to the Moscow City Court stating that if they liquidate the HRC, which defends the truth, there will be no one to bring the truth to authorities," Mr Myakiev has stated in his video message.

Isropil Nalgiev, who was sentenced to 11 months of imprisonment under the case of the rally in Magas, has also recorded a video message in support of the "Memorial"*. "The HRC 'Memorial'* is the oldest human rights organization in our country, but today we see attacks thereon. I, like many sane people, believe that these are attacks on human rights themselves. The HRC 'Memorial'* has repeatedly come to the aid of our fellow citizens and the people in general, therefore I see it my duty to support the HRC," Mr Nalgiev has stated.

* The organization is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice in the register of NPOs performing the functions of a foreign agent.
