Murtazali Gasanguseinov considers lawsuit against “Memorial”* not fair

Murtazali Gasanguseinov, a father of Dagestani shepherds Nabi and Gasangusein Gasanguseinov, who were killed in 2016, arrived in Moscow to attend the today’s court hearing on a lawsuit to liquidate the Human Rights Centre (HRC) “Memorial”*. According to Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the “stigma of terrorists” was removed from his killed sons thanks to the HRC “Memorial”*.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that today, the Moscow City Court has begun the fourth hearing on the lawsuit filed by the Prosecutor’s Office on the liquidation of the HRC “Memorial”*.

Murtazali Gasanguseinov arrived in Moscow and stays near the building of the Moscow City Court. The man plans to attend the court hearing on the lawsuit of the Prosecutor’s Office to liquidate the HRC “Memorial”*, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports. “The ‘Memorial’ is the only human rights centre that helps ordinary people seeking justice,” Murtazali Gasanguseinov told the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.

The father of the killed shepherds held numerous actions of protest and succeeded in seeking the institution of a criminal case on the killing of his sons – 17-year-old Nabi and 19-year-old Gasangusein – during a special operation in August 2016. The law enforcement bodies declared the killed brothers as militants, but the brothers' parents and their fellow villagers insist that the young men were shepherds and that they were simply grazing sheep in the mountains.

The man emphasized that the HRC “Memorial”* had done a lot to remove the “stigma of terrorists” from his sons. According to Murtazali Gasanguseinov, he was recognized as a victim thanks to the work of the “Memorial”* lawyers. The father of the killed shepherds noted that he was admitted to examination of the materials of the criminal case just after the lawyers of the HRC “Memorial”* began to represent his interests.

* The organization is included by the Russian Ministry of Justice in the register of NPOs performing the functions of a foreign agent.
