Peskov: blood feud in Chechnya contradicts laws of Russia

Amid a scandal involving the threats from the Chechen authorities to the Yangulbaev family, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has announced that the tradition of blood feuds does not comply with the laws of Russia.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 1, Adam Delimkhanov, a State Duma member and an adviser to the leader of Chechnya, posted a video on his Instagram page in which, speaking in the Chechen language, he threatened to “cut off heads” of members of the Yangulbaev family and those who would translate his words from Chechen into Russian. Adam Delimkhanov based his threats on blood feuds.

Today, when responding to a request from journalists to comment on the practice of broadcasting blood feud threats in the Chechen media, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov has declared that, being a tradition in Chechnya, blood feud does not comply with the laws of Russia. “This is a traditional question for the region, but the tradition does not correlate with the laws of the Russian Federation,” the TASS quoted Dmitry Peskov as saying.

At the same time, Dmitry Peskov found it difficult to answer the question of how the Kremlin would see the resolution of the mentioned contradiction. “I can’t tell you. The crucial concept, of course, is the rule of law: this is the main thesis in this situation,” the RIA “Novosti” quotes presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov as answering the journalists.
