Armenian opposition demands from EU to react to problem with return of POWs

The European Union (EU) exerts insufficient pressure on Azerbaijan concerning the return of Armenian prisoners of war (POWs), opposition activists say. They called on their supporters to organize a protest action during a meeting in Yerevan of the bureau and commissions of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the Armenian opposition has repeatedly reproached the country’s authorities for insufficiently active work on the return of Armenian soldiers from captivity in Azerbaijan. In April 2021, Armenian MPs stated that the authorities of Azerbaijan were artificially delaying the release of Armenian prisoners of war and did not disclose their number.

The youth wing of the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun” Party intends to hold protest actions in Yerevan on February 21 and 22. The young activists intend to demand from the EU to increase pressure on the authorities of Azerbaijan concerning the return of captured Armenian soldiers.
