Protesters in Yerevan put forward claims to Armenian authorities because of visit of Azerbaijani MPs
Opponents of the visit to Armenia of the Azerbaijani delegation, which arrived to participate in the meeting of the "Euronest" Parliamentary Assembly, held two protest actions in Yerevan. At one of them, 26 protesters were detained, including 15 supporters of the ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation) "Dashnaktsutyun". The MPs of the People's Assembly (Parliament) of Armenia were outraged by the words of the Azerbaijani MP, Soltan Mamedov, about the end of the conflict around Karabakh.
On February 21, veterans of the Karabakh war held a rally in Yerevan against the visit to Armenia of the Azerbaijani delegation, which arrived to participate in the sitting of the "Euronest" Parliamentary Assembly. They accused authorities of ignoring national interests when establishing relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
On February 22, activists also staged a protest in front of the building in Yerevan where the "Euronest" sitting was held.
Larisa Alaverdyan, the first Armenian Ombudsperson, has called to treat the 2020 war in Nagorno-Karabakh as "a genocidal aggression against Armenians."
"The Azerbaijani MPs who arrived in Yerevan may be relatives of those who killed our children. How can you let them into the country?" a female relative of a soldier who perished in the Karabakh war stated with indignation.
In his speech, an Azerbaijani MP stated that "the war is over, the Karabakh issue has been exhausted; Azerbaijan has returned all the prisoners of war (POWs); and not a single historical and cultural monument has been destroyed."
"The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is not resolved, no matter how much the Azerbaijani MPs convince themselves and others," Arman Egoyan, an MP from the ruling "Civil Contract" faction, has stated in response.
