Russia's MoD reports evacuation of over 30,000 Mariupol townspeople per day
On March 16, a total of 31,367 civilians were evacuated through the humanitarian corridor from the city of Mariupol, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Ukraine, more than 200 people were evacuated from the Donetsk Region.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 14, the Russian MoD reported that since the start of the special military operation in Ukraine, 248,993 people have been evacuated into Russia.
On March 16, humanitarian corridors were opened in the Kyiv, Chernigov, Sumy and Kharkov directions, the "Interfax" reported with reference to Mikhail Mizintsev, the head of the National Centre for Defence Control of the Russian Federation. One corridor was opened eastward to the Russian territory, and one more – "across the territories controlled by Kyiv authorities towards the western borders of Ukraine," Mr Mizintsev has added, noting that during the past 24 hours, 31,367 civilians were safely evacuated from Mariupol through humanitarian corridors.
In its turn, the Ukrainian MIA reported that more than 200 people, including 52 children, were evacuated from the Donetsk Region on March 16.
