Azerbaijani authorities announce search for mass graves near Karabakh village
At the height of Farrukh, near the Karabakh village of the same name, the remains of, presumably, Azerbaijani soldiers who perished during the first Karabakh war were found, the State Commission of Azerbaijan has stated today.
"After the victory in the 44-day war, in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, the process of identifying and exhuming the graves of the Azerbaijani citizens who went missing in the first Karabakh war continues," the Azerbaijani State Commission for Prisoners of War (POWs), Hostages and Missing Persons has stated today.
On March 28, the remains of several people were found at the height of Farrukh in the Khodjaly District (the Armenian name is the Askeran District), the above commission has informed in its statement.
"Given the fact that during the first Karabakh war, there were fierce battles for this height, it is assumed that the discovered remains belong to perished Azerbaijani military servicemen. In the near future they will be handed over to competent bodies for examination," the commission has added.
According to its data, during the battles for Farrukh, 62 Azerbaijani servicemen went missing. Another 46 people went missing in the village of Pirlyar (the Armenian name is Khramort) of the Khodjaly District located south of Farrukh; other 11 persons went missing in the village of Aliagaly, Agdam District to the north of the village of Farrukh.
"Taking into account the possible presence of mass graves at the Farrukh height and the surrounding area, it is planned to carry out search and exhumation activities there.
