Eleven people detained at a protest action in Yerevan

The police detained for failure to obey eleven participants of a protest action held with the demand for the resignation of the Prime Minister of Armenia. Several detainees were injured and required medical help.

The youth wing of the Republican Party of Armenia planned to hold today a protest action near the central office of the ruling “Civil Contract” Party. However, the police did not let the protesters come close to the building. The police accumulated additional forces, including Red Beret special forces, to the office of the ruling party in Yerevan. The police announced that they could not let the activists approach the building for security reasons, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports with reference to the portal “168.am”.

The police cordoned off the activists on the opposite sidewalk from the office. The protesters were chanting slogans for the resignation of Nikol Pashinyan. A small conflict occurred between the police and the activists, which ended in detentions. The protesters marched from the office of the “Civil Contract” Party to the police station, where the detained activists had been taken.

According to Hayk Mamidjanyan, a member of the “I Have the Honour” parliamentary bloc, which includes the Republican Party of Armenia, more than ten persons were detained at the protest action. “Three of them got bodily injuries, and an ambulance was called for them,” Hayk Mamidjanyan informed the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent.
