Court refuses to consider Bakhtiyar Gadjiev's complaint about GPO's inaction
The Sabail Court of Baku has rejected the complaint lodged by Bakhtiyar Gadjiev, the head of the NGO "Positive Changes", about the absence of inquiry into his application about policemen's violence against him committed on March 9, the activist himself has stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Bakhtiyar Gadjiev had informed that after his protest action held in front of the building of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) on March 9, he was beaten up by law enforcers. Gadjiev went out to his protest action aiming to draw attention to his complaints to which he received no answers.
Because of law enforcers' actions, Bakhtiyar Gadjiev filed a complaint with the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), and the Sabail and Khatai District Prosecutor's Offices, he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "I asked to investigate the physical pressure on me and to punish the culprits. However, there was no efficient inquiry. The above District Prosecutor's Offices sent me formal replies that my complaint has been sent to the Main Police Department of Baku. This is despite the fact that I had just complained about the actions of employees and the deputy head of this particular Department," Mr Gadjiev has stated.
"Since no decisions were made, and no one was punished, on April 18, I applied to the Sabail District Court demanding to oblige the GPO bodies to investigate (the actions of) the police," Bakhtiyar Gadjiev has concluded. However, the Sabail Court of Baku rejected the complaint.
