Armenian opposition warns authorities against territorial concessions
The principle of a mirror withdrawal of troops is unacceptable, since Armenia will lose control over strategic positions, protesters in Yerevan have stated. They demanded to hold the Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan, accountable for the outcome of the autumn war in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 18, the opposition resumed protests in Yerevan demanding the resignation of the government.
Anna Grigoryan, an MP from the "Aiyastan" faction, has stated that authorities are hiding the principle by which the commission on the border demarcation and delimitation will be formed. According to her story, demarcation is impossible until Azerbaijani troops have left Armenia.
Earlier, Armenian analysts stated that the initiative on the mirror withdrawal of troops threatens the security of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
Ishkhan Sagatelyan, a vice-speaker of the parliament and a member of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun", believes that the activeness of law enforcers during detentions is explained by the bonuses that authorities have paid to them.
"The official data is about 414 detainees, but according to our estimates, there are about 600 of them," he has stated.
Daniel Ionesyan, the coordinator of the Union of Informed Citizens, has noted on the Facebook* that there were no more than 400 detainees even during the April 2018 events.
Kristine Grigoryan, the Armenian Ombudsperson, has treated policemen's actions during detentions of protesters as unacceptable. Several people received traumas, she has added.
