Chechen social media users react ironically to authorities' promise to increase pensions

The message about pension indexing and increase of the floor wage has caused no joy among users of the Chechen segment of the Instagram* social network. The pension is barely enough for food; and its slight increase will lead to an increase in prices for foodstuffs and services, social network users in Chechnya assert.

On May 25, Russian President, Vladimir Putin, announced pension indexing for non-working pensioners by 10% starting from June 1; an increase in the subsistence minimum in the country by 10% - up to 13,919 roubles, and an increase in the minimum wage (known as MROT) from July 1 by 10% - up to 15,279 roubles, the TASS has reported.

The post that the Russian government has agreed on pension indexing, the increase of the MROT and the subsistence minimum by 10% was published on May 25 in the Instagram* public "Grozny-Inform".

In their comments, social network users reacted ironically to the news. "That's it, we'll live now like in Switzerland and Dubai," the user blagnac1979 wrote with irony.

A number of users have noted that their current pensions are just enough to pay utility bills and buy medicines. "How to live on such a pension, maybe someone will tell me? Half of it is spent on utility bills and communal services, medicines, and there's no money left for food. How to live? Foodstuffs are getting more and more expensive, the brakes are broken in prices, aren't they?" the user nellysavchuk2015 has asked.
