Makhachkala townspeople support solo pickets in Gadjiev's defence

Passers-by were actively interested in pickets in support of the Dagestani journalist, Abdulmumin Gadjiev; they asked the picketers about his fate, Magomed Magomedov, a deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" (Draft) outlet, has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev's colleagues are regularly holding solo pickets in central Makhachkala to support him, at which they also demand to stop persecuting of journalists and release political prisoners.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev, Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev are accused of financing terrorism. Gadjiev maintains his innocence, while his colleagues treat his prosecution as pressure on him.

On June 6, Dagestan journalists held two solo pickets at the intersection of Dakhadaev Street and Rasul Gamzatov Avenue. Mr Magomedov was the first solo picketer. At the action, he demanded to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev and stop criminal prosecution, Magomed Magomedov himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has added that the second solo picket was held by Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik".

There were many people passing by the picketers and interested in the posters, Magomedov said. "Someone asked what happened to him (Gadjiev). Someone already knew about him and expressed support," he said, adding that drivers of cars passing by also actively reacted to solo pickets.
