Well-known political scientist arrested in Azerbaijan
Mr Veliev, Rovshan Novruzoglu, Director of the Centre for Fighting Corruption and International Terrorism and science collaborator of the Human Rights Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, has been arrested. The statement was made by Vugar Aliev, head of the press service of the State Office of Public Prosecutor, the Day.Az reports with reference to the APA.
R. Novruzoglu was arrested on the basis of the materials submitted to the State Office of Public Prosecutor by the executive authorities of the city of Baku. It is noted that Rovshan Novruzoglu was engaged in swindling committed by his claiming to be a high-ranking official.
The Judge of the Nasiminskiy District Court has chosen arrest as freedom restriction measure in relation to R. Novruzoglu.
The Information Agency "News-Azerbaijan" notes that Mr Novruzoglu is the author of about a dozen fundamental works full of classified information on Armenian terrorism, actions of Armenian special services and their plans.
Journalists know R. Novruzoglu as the most informed Azerbaijani analyst specializing in the history and realities of the Turk-Armenian conflict, always ready to share with the press the most confidential information (while keeping the sources thereof secret).
At the latest parliamentary elections, Rovshan Novruzoglu ran for deputy at the Yasamal electoral constituency No. 15.
