After meeting Abkhaz Premier, Djansukh Adleiba continues his hunger strike

In Freedom Square in Sukhumi, Abkhaz residents have held a rally in support of the hunger-striking Djansukh Adleiba and demanded to meeting Alexander Ankvab, the republic's Prime Minister. The increase in gasoline diesel fuel prices is caused by a similar increase in prices in Russia, Mr Ankvab said after coming out to protesters. In his turn, Adleiba refused to end his hunger strike, as Ankvab failed to convince him.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 13, it became known that Djansukh Adleiba, an activist, went on a hunger strike that he holds in the above Sukhumi square, demanding from the government to lower the prices for motor fuel.

On June 23, people gathered in Freedom Square in Sukhumi to support Djansukh Adleiba, who was on a hunger strike for the 12th day, demanding a reduction in prices for oil products in Abkhazia. Adleiba had turned to Alexander Ankvab, the Premier, with a demand to come out to the square and meet the people who are dissatisfied with the situation with fuel prices.

Alexander Ankvab came out to the protesters. His conversation with Adleiba and the crowd lasted for more than an hour and a half. The Premier has stated that the price growth is caused by an increase in prices in Russia.

Mr Ankvab asked Adleiba to stop his hunger strike, at least for a while. "We can meet at the end of next week; and we'll inform you about the actions taken by authorities to solve your problem," the Premier has promised. In spite of that, Djansukh Adleiba stated his dissatisfaction with the dialogue and announced his intention to continue his hunger strike.
