Death toll among natives of Southern Russia in Ukraine exceeds 500

Since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, the information about at least 504 perished fighters from the southern regions of Russia, including 342 natives of Northern Caucasus and 162 residents of the Southern Federal District, has been officially confirmed. Most of the perished fighters were natives of Dagestan, and the regional authorities reported about at least 167 perished natives of the republic.

The deaths in Ukraine of 167 natives of Dagestan, 74 natives of North Ossetia, and 43 fighters from the Stavropol Territory have been officially confirmed. The authorities also reported about the deaths of 25 natives of Kabardino-Balkaria, 18 residents of Chechnya, 10 residents of Ingushetia, and five residents of Karachay-Cherkessia.

Since the beginning of the special military operation, the authorities of the regions and municipalities of the Southern Federal District (SFD) have reported about at least 162 perished people. So, the authorities of the Volgograd Region confirmed the deaths of 58 natives of the region, the authorities of the Krasnodar Territory – about 36 compatriots, and the authorities of the Rostov Region – about 30 compatriots. Furthermore, the deaths of 27 natives of the Astrakhan Region, seven natives of Kalmykia, and four fighters from Adygea were confirmed.

It should be noted that by May 20, the number of law enforcers from Northern Caucasus perished in the special military operation in Ukraine exceeded the number of those killed during the last eight years of the armed conflict.

Earlier, analysts have pointed to the lack of the data on the death toll in Ukraine. As a rule, most of the contract soldiers are natives of poor regions, which explains the frequent reports of casualties among natives of Dagestan and other republics of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD), Caucasian expert Akhmet Yarlykapov suggests.
