Petition for visa regime for Russian citizens in Georgia gains more than 14,000 votes

Over 14,000 votes were received in the first day by a petition calling on the Georgian authorities to introduce a visa regime for citizens of Russia, as well as Belarus.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 2, the opposition “Lelo” Party voiced a proposal to the authorities of Georgia to introduce a visa regime for citizens of Russia and Belarus, with the term of a tourist visa not exceeding 30 days.

On August 3, the petition for the introduction of a visa regime in Georgia for citizens of Russia and Belarus was posted on the “manifest.ge” portal. “A visa regime should be introduced for citizens of Russia and Belarus, according to which citizens of Russia and Belarus will not be allowed to stay on the territory of Georgia for more than three months during a year, which will provide citizens of Russia and Belarus with the opportunity to enter Georgia only for tourism purposes,” states the petition, which text was translated from the Georgian language by the “Caucasian Knot”.

Giorgi Imedashvili, a member of the political council of the opposition “United National Movement” (UNM) Party, is listed as the author of the petition. By 4:12 p.m. Moscow time on August 4, the petition gained 14,082 votes.
