New Zealand imposes sanctions against Kadyrov
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of New Zealand announced imposing sanctions against Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in connection with the special military operation in Ukraine. The sanctions are imposed on the people from the inner circle of the Russian President, who are “rewarded for their loyalty with wealth and influence,” the MFA of New Zealand announced.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the US Department of the Treasury included Ramzan Kadyrov on the Magnitsky sanctions list back in December 2017, calling the leader of Chechnya responsible for extrajudicial executions, torture, and other human rights violations in Chechnya. On September 15, the United States announced that, in addition to Ramzan Kadyrov, his wife Medni Kadyrova and his three daughters, as well as Fatima Khazueva and Aminad Akhmadova, who were called the wives of the leader of Chechnya, were included in the sanctions list. According to the US department of Treasury, “Ramzan Kadyrov amassed a huge fortune thanks to his close relationship with Vladimir Putin.”
Earlier, on July 20, 2020, the US Department of State announced new sanctions against Ramzan Kadyrov, considering it reliable information that the leader of Chechnya “was responsible for numerous gross violations of human rights committed more than a decade ago, including torture and extrajudicial executions.”
