Japan extends sanctions to Kadyrov's relatives

The Japanese government, which had earlier decided to freeze the assets of the head of Chechnya, has now extended sanctions to his wife and three daughters, as well as two women named on the list as Ramzan Kadyrov's wives. Japan has also sanctioned the head of the Chechen branch of the "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard) and his deputy.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 8, 2022, Japan included Kadyrov in the list of Russian officials whose assets in Japan were frozen. The head of Chechnya assured that he has no assets in Japan and is not afraid of these sanctions.

The US Treasury added Kadyrov to the Magnitsky sanctions list back in December 2017, calling him responsible for extrajudicial executions, torture and other human rights violations in Chechnya. On September 15, 2022, the Treasury announced that, apart from Kadyrov himself, his wife Medni and three daughters, as well as Fatima Khazueva and Aminad Akhmadova, who were named Ramzan's wives, were also included into the sanctions list.

The Japanese government has included 58 Russian citizens and nine organizations into the sanctions list, as well as 23 officials from the territories of Donbass and Eastern Ukraine annexed by Russia; it follows from the document posted on the website of the Japanese Ministry of Finance.

The economic restrictions cover Medni Kadyrova, the wife of the head of Chechnya, his daughters Aishat, Karina (or Khadizhat, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") and Tabarik Kadyrovas, as well as Fatima Khazueva and Aminat Akhmadova, who are named Kadyrov's wives in the list.

Besides, the list includes Sharip Delimkhanov, the head of the Chechen "Rosgvardiya" Branch, and his deputy Alibek Delimkhanov.

In July, both Delimkhanovs were also included into the sanctions list of the European Union (EU), which believes that they commanded Chechen law enforcers during the military operation in Ukraine.
