Court ruling in favour of Poltavskaya villagers encourages dump opponents

The recognition by the court of violations in the operation of the garbage landfill located in the village of Poltavskaya (Krasnodar Territory) was a small victory in the fight against the dump, activists assert. The environmental organization "Green Village", created this year, is a party in the litigation to close the dump (landfill).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 17, the Prosecutor's Office (PO) of the Krasnodar Territory reported that the court had fully satisfied the PO's claim and obliged the housing and communal services of the Krasnoarmeisky District to equip the above waste disposal landfill with a biogas removal system, and place local purification facilities there.

Denis Pryimak, a lawyer of the "Ilex Group" Agency, helps defend the rights of Poltavskaya villagers in courts. The people's unification into a social movement and the registration of the "Green Village" organization have forced authorities to reckon with villagers' opinion, Mr Pryimak believes.

He has explained that he had visited the landfill and was "horrified by the catastrophic situation" there.
