In Vienna, picketers call on to prevent deportation of Chechen woman Gerikhanova to Russia

Members of the Chechen Diaspora and employees of the human rights organization “Amnesty International” (AI) held a demonstration in the capital of Austria. During their protest action, the activists called on the authorities of Romania not to expel Amina Gerikhanova to Russia.

On September 8, the Chechen human rights association “Vayfond”, based in Sweden, announced that the Romanian police did not allow Amina Gerikhanova to be at large after her release from custody. On September 22, Amina Gerikhanova complained about threats from the Romanian police to extradite her to Russia, contrary to the recommendations of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

A son of Amina Gerikhanova took part in the protest action held in front of the Romanian Embassy in Vienna. In his hands, the boy was holding the poster reading: “Give me my mother back.”

Let us remind you that on March 13, 36-year-old Amina Gerikhanova was detained together with her child at the Romanian border while they were trying to leave Ukraine, where the woman lived after she had left Chechnya about five years ago. Amina Gerikhanova was arrested, and her son was placed in an orphanage, from where he was later taken by a relative. Interpol wants Amina Gerikhanova at the request of Russia, where the woman is accused of participating in the combat actions in Syria.
