Law enforcers release Volgograd activist

Daniel Kurakin has been let free after interrogation by investigators, human rights defenders have informed.

On January 30, in Volgograd, law enforcers took away local activist Kurakin for questioning, his acquaintance has stated.

On March 18, 2022, Daniel Kurakin was detained at a rally after unfolding a poster against the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. The court arrested him for 15 days under the articles on repeated violation of the procedure for organizing a public event and on discrediting the Russian Army. The activist refused to plead guilty of discrediting militaries, and, in protest against the arrest, went on a hunger strike, which he stopped on March 28, 2022.

Presumably, Kurakin is in the status of a witness in a criminal case, the “OVD-Info”* project has reported.

The interrogation of Kurakin may have to do with the case of spreading fakes about the Russian Army initiated against the activist, Evgeny Kochegin, the project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" has specified.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in May 2022, a court in Volgograd ruled to arrest Kochegin in absentia, suspected of spreading deliberately false information about the actions of the Russian Army. The activist himself treats the criminal case against him as a revenge for his social and political activities.

On September 9, 2022, law enforcers came with a search to the family of doctors from Volgograd, Angelina Neroznik and her husband Sergey; after interrogation they were released. Evgeny Kochegin has pointed out that the reason for the spouses’ search was in their friendship with him.
