Rostov court obliges Catholic priest to leave Russia

In Rostov-on-Don, the court of appellate instance has rejected the complaint lodged against the decision to expel Mikhal Mzhyglud, the rector of the Catholic Church in Novocherkassk, out of Russia. The Polish priest has violated the immigration legislation, which could pose a threat to the security of the state and people's lives, the court has ruled.

According to the Novocherkassk court, Mikhal Mzhyglud, a Polish citizen, arrived in the city in April 2022, and got registered at one address whiled lived at another one, although the law demands from a foreigner to notify authorities about a change of residence within seven days. "I believed that no notification was necessary, since the addresses are located nearby," the court's website reports.

Mikhal Mzhyglud has been working in Russia for many years; he was the rector of the cathedral in Saratov and a priest in Kazan. In January 2022, he headed the Catholic parish in Volgodonsk and was rector of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Novocherkassk, the outlet named “1rnd” reports.
