Social network users criticize generous payments from Kadyrov Fund to newlyweds

Ten million roubles that the Kadyrov Fund has promised to distribute among 100 newlywed couples should be better spent to help the needy people in Chechnya, Instagram* users have noted. Some of them have linked the Fund's action with the marriage of Ramzan Kadyrov's son.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2020, Chechen authorities promised to give 50,000 roubles to each of 207 grooms who have no money for the traditional bride buying out. Even modest weddings in Chechnya are expensive, while economic hardships often force people to put off getting married, Orientalists then pointed out.

The Akhmat Kadyrov Fund has promised to allocate 100,000 roubles to each couple who will marry on March 4, the "Chechnya Today" News Agency has announced.

"The Fund also undertakes organization of the wedding party and will provide a car, a wedding dress and even a bouquet for the bride," the agency has added.

Some commentators on the Instagram* have disputed the decision to pay the newlyweds.

"I understand that this is a great opportunity and help for those who live hard! But people who are greedy for other's money and have their normal incomes will take advantage of this!" the user kzi_groz has suggested.

"I wonder why just on March 4," the user rozanohcho was surprised. "Kadyrov's son is getting married," the user qonax95 has explained.

The information about the forthcoming marriage of Akhmat Kadyrov was confirmed by Ramzan Kadyrov today, when informing about an unofficial meeting of his son with Vladimir Putin.

The traditions of early marriages are still preserved in Northern Caucasus. Although, according to the Russian Family Code, the marriageable age starts at 18 years old, if there are valid reasons, local authorities have the right to allow local residents to marry starting from 16 years of age. The lowest marriageable age – 14 years – is set up in Chechnya and Adygea, lawyers explained earlier.
