Three Chechen law enforcers convicted in case on terror act in Znamenskoye

Rustam Buluev, Ruslan Namatov, and Arthur Ushaev, former employees of the antiterrorist centre of Chechnya, were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment on the charges of committing a terror act in the village of Znamenskoye in 2005.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in 2021, the case against three residents of Chechnya, accused in the case on a terror act in the village of Znamenskoye, was sent to court. The defendants were accused of acts of banditry, terrorism, encroachment on the lives of law enforcers, a murder, and an attempted murder of two or more persons. Moreover, two of the defendants were also charged with kidnapping.

On July 19, 2005, in the village of Znamenskoye in the Nadterechny District of Chechnya, fifteen people, including a woman and two children, were killed by a car bomb, and other 24 local residents were injured. Ali Agamerzoev and Aslambek Vitrigov were detained on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Ayub Tuntuev was accused of organizing the terror act. According to Ayub Tuntuev’s testimony, the attack was ordered by Shamil Basaev, who promised to pay the performers 1000 US dollars.

Rustam Buluev was sentenced to 21 years, Ruslan Namatov – 23 years, and Arthur Ushaev – 24 years of imprisonment. Earlier, other participants of the terror act – Ali Agamerzoev, Aslambek Vitrigov, and Ayub Tuntuev – were also sentenced to long terms of imprisonment.

Earlier, Arthur Ushaev was sentenced to 19 years and Ruslan Namatov – to 18 years of imprisonment in the case on an attack on Pskov paratroopers.
