Court of Appeal toughens punishment for pastor from Anapa

At an appeal filed by a public prosecutor, the Krasnodar Territorial Court imposed a seven-year ban on public activities on Nikolai Bogoslavsky, a pastor of the Evangelical Church. Earlier, Nikolai Bogoslavsky had been sentenced to a year of imprisonment in a penal colony.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that a court sentenced pastor Nikolai Bogoslavsky to a year of imprisonment in a penal colony under the article on cooperation with an undesirable organization after he had took part in a conference of the Christian movement “New Generation”*.

In February 2022, Nikolai Bogoslavsky was fined under the administrative article about an undesirable organization. The reason was his participation in the conference of the Christian movement “New Generation”* in the Moscow Region, which was held in December 2021. The police considered that Nikolai Bogoslavsky continued to cooperate with the Christian movement “New Generation”*, and after a fine, a criminal case was instituted against him.

In August 2021, the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation recognized the activities of four foreign religious organizations, including the Christian movement “New Generation”*, as undesirable, the RBC reported.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in March, the European Court of Human Right (ECtHR) communicated the complaints filed by seven activists from Kuban and Adygea, who claimed that they had been persecuted in connection with their alleged involvement in undesirable organizations.

*Recognized by the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation as undesirable in the territory of the country.
