Heads of three regions of Southern Russia and Chechen officials get under EU sanctions

The heads of the Kuban (Krasnodar Territory), Stavropol Territory and Adygea, as well as the head of the government of Chechnya and the Chechen Ombudsperson, have been included into the sanctions list of the European Union (EU).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that earlier sanctions had been repeatedly imposed on the heads of the regions of Southern Russia and the republics of Northern Caucasus. Thus, on February 24, 2023, the US Treasury included a number of governors of Southern Russia into the sanctions list. On February 28, Ukrainian authorities imposed sanctions on the head of the Chechen government, Muslim Khuchiev.

Within the framework of its 11th package of anti-Russian sanctions, the EU has introduced restrictions against 71 citizens of the Russian Federation, says the EU's Official Journal. The list includes the Kuban governor Veniamin Kondratiev and the governor of the Stavropol Territory Vladimir Vladimirov, as well as the head of Adygea Murat Kumpilov.
