Residents of Dagestan appreciated the importance of Eid al-Adha
The celebration of Eid al-Adha in Dagestan is not as scaled as of the Eid al-Fitr, but gradually the number of believers who understand the significance of this holiday and participate in sacrifices is increasing, residents of the republic have noted.
On the occasion of celebrating the Eid al-Adha, Dagestan has announced June 28-30 as days off. The "Nadezhda" (Hope) Charitable Fund has organized, with the participation of volunteers, the sacrifice of 380 animals to be distributed among the poor.
According to Rakhmuddin Badruddinov, the Imam of the "Ikhlas" Mosque in Makhachkala, the rite of sacrifice symbolizes the obedience to Allah of the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was ready to sacrifice his son, as he was ordered. "But Almighty Allah replaced the son's sacrifice with an animal sacrifice, and since then, Muslims have been sacrificing a ram or cattle, showing their humility before Allah," the Imam has explained.
After the rite of sacrifice, this animal's meat is given to the needy people, relatives, and friends. "Thus, the feast of sacrifice has a very great social significance, when the rich support the poor," the Imam has concluded.
The celebration of Eid al-Adha in Dagestan is not as broad as the celebration of another Muslim holiday – the Eid al-Fitr. The difference can be explained, first of all, by the fact that the population is busy with sacrificial rites during the Eid al-Adha, while during the Eid al-Fitr there are no special rites that require concentration of time and efforts, the Imam has concluded.
On June 30, Makhachkala hosted festivities in honour of Eid al-Adha, said Mukhammad, a volunteer, who helped organize the celebrations. In his opinion, the holiday is gaining more and more popularity among republic's residents.
Within the framework of the projects related to sacrifices during the Eid al-Adha, charitable funds can provide meat for almost all those in need in Dagestan, Timur Gadjizharaev, the head of the "Friends of Mercy" benefactors association, has stated. According to his story, during the Eid al-Adha, a "meat bank" is formed, which is then spent throughout the year to support those in need.
Islam, a resident of Makhachkala, has emphasized that the Eid al-Adha is of great charitable and moral significance.
