Kadyrov's nephew awarded "Order of Merit for the Fatherland"

Russian President Vladimir Putin has decorated Khamzat Kadyrov, a nephew of the head of Chechnya, with the "Order of Merit for the Fatherland", II Degree.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 2, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced the appointment of his nephew, Khamzat Kadyrov, as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Property and Land Relations of Chechnya. On April 25, Khamzat Kadyrov was appointed adviser to the head of the republic on the power bloc.

In his telegram channel, Kadyrov has congratulated his nephew on the award, noting that "the award was presented for labour success and many years of conscientious work."

Adam Delimkhanov, a Russian State Duma MP from Chechnya, has also congratulated the nephew on the award. He has also noted that Khamzat Kadyrov held various positions in the leadership of Chechnya. "Despite his young age, he has considerable experience in state service in various sectors," Adam Delimkhanov has written.

Almost the entire ruling system in Chechnya is tied personally to Ramzan Kadyrov and people close to him. According to the BBC Russian Service, out of 158 top officials in Chechnya, 30% are Kadyrov's relatives; 23% are his fellow villagers, and other 12% are his friends and their relatives.

The governance in Chechnya, as in Russia as a whole, is based on the system of personal loyalty, Dmitry Oreshkin, a political analyst (included in the register of foreign agents), explained in 2019.
