Makhachkala residents angered by problems with energy supply

In Makhachkala, the long absence of electricity has affected entrepreneurs, and city residents complained that power outages led to a shutdown of water supply. General Prosecutor Igor Krasnov reacted to massive power outages in Dagestan by instructing his subordinates to find the causes of what was happening.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 9, residents of Makhachkala blocked traffic along Magomed Gadjiev Street as a sign of protest. According to the protestors, there has been no electricity in their houses for three days, and there is no reaction from the authorities. After talks with officials and police, the city residents unblocked traffic on the street, but promised to resume their protest action if the electricity supply to their houses was not restored.

There was no electricity in a grocery store on Zamanova Street in Makhachkala for a whole day, its owner Magomedrasul says. “Food products in refrigerators worth 50,000 roubles have gone bad. Who will compensate for the damage? Electricity supply is cut off almost every day for a long time,” the entrepreneur complained.

There is no electricity on Akhmet-Sultan Avenue since the morning, says Aminat from Makhachkala. “The electricity supply is cut off for several hours every day,” the woman complained.

“In connection with numerous accidents at electrical substations and interruptions in the supply of electricity and drinking water to the population, the General Prosecutor of Russia instructed his subordinates to quickly take measures to restore the rights of citizens and prevent this from happening in the future,” the General Prosecutor’s Office reported in its Telegram channel.

The situation is caused by the chaotic construction of multi-storey residential buildings, not designed for the capacity of the existing energy facilities, and illegal connections to the power grid, the General Prosecutor’s Office explains.
