US Treasury announces sanctions against Kadyrov's mother and Chechen officials
Ramzan Kadyrov's mother Aimani, Mansur Soltaev, the Chechen Ombudsperson, Muslim Khuchiev, the Chairman of the Chechen Government, and Zamid Chalaev, the commander of the special police regiment named after Akhmat Kadyrov of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), have been put on the sanctions list of the US Treasury Department.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the start of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, sanctions were repeatedly imposed on Ramzan Kadyrov’s relatives of and Chechen state servants. Thus, in September 2022, the USA tightened sanctions against Ramzan Kadyrov by expanding them onto his relatives – his wife Medni and three daughters, as well as on Fatima Khazueva and Aminad Akhmadova, who were treated as Kadyrov's wives in the sanctions list. On February 24, 2023, it became known that the US Treasury included a number of governors of Southern Russia into its sanctions list. On February 28, the Ukrainian authorities imposed sanctions on Muslim Khuchiev, the Chairman of the Chechen Government, and on Mansur Soltaev, the Ombudsperson. On June 23, the European Union (EU) introduced the 11th package of sanctions, which included, in particular, Khuchiev and Soltaev.
Ramzan Kadyrov has been under US sanctions since 2017, and under EU’s ones since 2014.
The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that on August 2, Ramzan Kadyrov announced that his mother had been awarded the Order of Honour for her active social work, which was presented to her by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
