SMO participants oppose landfill in Poltavskaya
In their video appeal to Vladimir Putin, the Public Prosecutor General and the Chairman of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), the fellow villagers of Poltavskaya, who take part in the special military operation (SMO), have called for stopping the operation of the landfill located near their village.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 14, 2023, residents of the village of Poltavskaya stated that their numerous appeals to regional authorities had been unsuccessful.
Poltavskaya villagers demand that the trucks that deliver wastes to the landfill bypass the village. On March 23 and April 5, activists blocked the way for garbage trucks to the landfill; these actions turned into fines and violent dispersal of protesters.
The appeal of the participants in the SMO was posted on the Telegram channel "Poltavskaya against the landfill". "We ask you to save our native village from destruction, to stop bringing garbage from different regions there," says the post.
The work of the landfill is organized with violations, Yuri Vaskanyants, a lawyer, and Evgeny Vitishko, an environmentalist, have pointed out.
Let us remind you that on July 18, 2023, residents of Poltavskaya turned to the President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, with a request to help solving the landfill problem. Sergey Salnikov, an activist, took part in the video appeal. He stated that officials fail to react to appeals. After that, policemen drew up a protocol against him; and the court fined him, seeing his offence in calling on his fellow villagers to fight for their rights.
It should be noted here that SMO participants had earlier recorded video appeals to the Russian president. Thus, they asked to take control of the investigation into the case of a coach from Buynaksk, Timur Arslanbekov, accused of assaulting a law enforcer.
