Case on torture of a patient in Makhachkala psychiatric clinic goes to court

The investigation into a case on torture of a patient of a psychoneurological clinic in Makhachkala by a nurse has been completed, and case materials have been submitted to court.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 20, a video appeared on social media in which a female employee of the Republican Psychoneurological Clinic in Makhachkala mocked a patient, while her colleague filmed what was happening and laughed. Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, demanded to punish the employees of the psychoneurological clinic.

According to the investigators’ version, on July 20, the accused nurse caused physical and mental suffering to the patient. The employee is charged under the article “Torture” (provides for up to seven years of imprisonment, – note of the “Caucasian Knot”), the RIA (regional information agency) “Dagestan” reports with reference to the press service for the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

Earlier, lawyer Magomed Gadjiev noted that the actions of the medical staff filmed on the video violated the provisions of the Law “On Psychiatric Care” and that such videos rarely become public.

Violence and torture may not be applied to patients in any cases, including violent patients, explained a former doctor who worked in a psychiatric hospital.
