Father of soldiers who perished in Ukraine complains to Putin about Melikov
Dagestani authorities would not react to residents' requests to move the construction of the landfill from the Sarykum Dune; and it is impossible to get an appointment with Sergey Melikov about this. The father of two sons who perished in the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine has stated this in a video appeal addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On April 17, 2023, residents of the village of Novaya Urada in the Kumtorkala District held a rally against the construction of the landfill. They stated that the landfill would damage the Sarykum Dune, which is part of the Dagestani Nature Reserve and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On September 7, local residents went out to a protest action against the construction of the landfill; and law enforcers detained eight people. Melikov treated the protests as provocation.
On September 14, the "Caucasian Knot" received a new video appeal from participants in the SMO from the Kumtorkala District to the head of Dagestan in connection with the construction of a landfill. They reproached the head of the republic for allowing such a project to be implemented.
One of the authors of the video appeal said that he and his family members came to support the people who are seeking to move the construction site of the landfill to another location. The man who lost two sons during the SMO in Ukraine has noted that he had tried to meet the head of Dagestan on the topic.
To one of his appeals, he received a response with the words "you've received everything you need from the state; we can't help you with anything else," says the video posted in the Telegram channel "Atypical Makhachkala".
