Dagestani lawyer achieves compensation for detention near picket

A court in Dagestan has awarded compensation of 20,000 roubles to the lawyer, Marat Ismailov, who was detained while passing by a solo picket in support of the journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 26, 2022, it became known that the court ordered a Makhachkala policeman to make a written apology to Marat Ismailov.

Ismailov has claimed 40,000 roubles; and the court has partially satisfied his claim, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project has reported.

Let us remind you that Marat Ismailov was detained on January 24, 2022, in Makhachkala at the site of a solo picket held by Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik" outlet, who was holding his action in support of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the above outlet.

Ismailov stopped to greet the picketer, but did not even extend his hand, so as not to violate the rules for holding such actions. However, policemen insisted that Ismailov go to the police station.

Ismailov himself has noted that at the police station, they demanded written explanations from him regarding Kamalov's picket.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that Gadjiev's colleagues treat his criminal case as political persecution and weekly hold solo pickets in his support in Makhachkala.
