Member of the State Council of Tatarstan apologizes for criticizing awarding of Kadyrov’s son

Azat Khamaev, a member of the State Council of Tatarstan, apologized to his colleagues for critical words about Adam Kadyrov being awarded the title of Hero of Chechnya after his beating of arrested Nikita Zhuravel.

“When speaking at a meeting of the State Council of the Republic, I expressed my purely personal opinion, which was not supported by my colleagues. I apologize for my emotional statement, which could harm the relationship between fraternal peoples,” the “Tatar-Inform” news agency quoted Azat Khamaev as saying.

Earlier, Rustam Minnikhanov, the leader of Tatarstan, said that the statement voiced by Azat Khamaev at the meeting of the State Council of the Republic had nothing to do with the position of the Muslims of the republic.

A video of Azat Khamaev’s speech was posted in the “Ostorozhno, Novosti” (Caution, News) Telegram channel. “What kind of legal framework do we live in today? Here is an example from life: the leader of a subject of the Russian Federation assigns the title of hero to his son for beating a person. Further, he develops his idea and says that his son is a hero of all Muslims,” Azat Khamaev states in the video.

On October 15, Ramzan Kadyrov posted on the Internet a video about his son, including footage of Nikita Zhuravel being beaten. “Hero of all Muslims!” wrote the leader of Chechnya in the annotation to the video.
