Human rights defenders mention possible motives for detentions in Kadi-Yurt
Detentions in Kadi-Yurt could be provoked by the people’s reaction to the events in Palestina, but so far, there is no reliable information about the reasons for the law enforcers’ raid. This has been noted by human rights defenders interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot”. They have expressed different opinions over whether Chechen law enforcers were ready to carry out the Ramzan Kadyrov’s order to “shoot in the forehead” in the event of unrest.
On November 8, law enforcers conducted a raid in the village of Kadi-Yurt in the Gudermes District. Sources reported about the detention of several dozen local residents, one of them spoke out in support of Palestine.
No mass protests are possible in Chechnya in the current situation, suggests Ruslan Kutaev, the president of the Assembly of Caucasian Nations. At the same time, he emphasizes that the young people’s activity shows that the situation can change.
Ruslan Kutaev considers the statement about a “shot in the forehead” voiced by Ramzan Kadyrov as a threat that not every law enforcer is ready to fulfil.
During the Russian-Chechen wars, residents of Chechnya were very active in their protests, despite any dangers, but now they are hardly ready for mass protests, suggests Svetlana Gannushkina*, the chair of the “Civic Assistance Committee”*.
“It’s hard to expect mass protests against the regime of Ramzan Kadyrov now. All the people are tightly interconnected there,” suggests the human rights defender.
Svetlana Gannushkina* believes that the Chechen law enforcers are ready to carry out any instructions from Ramzan Kadyrov.
