Case on torture of Caucasian natives in Saratov prison hospital received by court

The Saratov Regional Court received a case on torture of prisoners, including natives of Chechnya, Dagestan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, in the regional tuberculosis hospital No. 1 of the regional Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) in Saratov. Charges have been brought against two former employees of the FSIN and six prisoners.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on November 9, 2021, human rights defenders released evidence of violence and torture against residents of Chechnya, Dagestan, Georgia, and Azerbaijan in the Saratov prison hospital. Authors of the investigation claimed that they had identified all the employees of the prison hospital involved in torture.

Of the accused, the most senior official is Pavel Gatsenko, the former head of the hospital. He is charged with organizing violent acts of a sexual nature.

Earlier, a former prisoner, a native of Dagestan, has claimed that convicts were admitted to the Saratov prison hospital not because of their health problems, but as punishment for misconduct and failure to obey warders. The prison hospital had a whole torture system in place, said an advocate.
