Verdict to KBR resident for evading military service upheld
The appellate instance has upheld the sentence of Islam Margushev, who had been mobilized from the Zolsky District and earlier sentenced to five years in penal colony on charges of leaving his military unit without permission.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October it became known that the Nalchik Garrison Military Court had sentenced the above Islam Margushev, 24, drafted from the Zolsky District of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), to five years in penal colony.
Margushev was mobilized on September 26, 2022, and served in a military unit stationed in Ingushetia. On December 13, 2022, he failed to show up for duty, and later explained in court that he decided to stay at home "because he wanted to have a rest and spend time with his mother." The court took into account that Margushev was raised without a father in a large family, was never brought to criminal responsibility; and in October-November 2022, he took part in the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine.
The Southern District Military Court has made a decision on the appeal of Margushev's defence and upheld the verdict, the "Kavkaz.Realii"* project reports.
