Winners of contest in memory of journalist Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev announced

The first prise in the contest in memory of Dagestani journalist Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev went to Irina Babicheva, a correspondent of the regional “161.ru” portal, for her article about the tragedy in the city of Yeisk, when sixteen people perished as a result of the crash of a Su-34 aircraft.

The second place went to Victoria Lee, a correspondent of the “Kholod” independent magazine. The journalist has visited the Circassian Diaspora in Turkey and talks in her article about how the people managed to maintain their dream of returning home for a century and a half and also about why their dream is now under threat.

The third place went to writer and journalist Maria Pankevich, a graduate of the boarding school named after Schetinin in the Krasnodar Territory. In her article, Maria Pankevich described how the school was “reviving the Russian spirit” and creating “people of the future.”

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that the acceptance of works for the annual prize in memory of Dagestani journalist Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev, killed in Dagestan, was announced on December 29, 2022.

On July 9, 2013, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev was shot dead in the village of Semender. While staying in one of the “hot” regions of Northern Caucasus, Akhmednabi Akhmednabiev highlighted sensitive topics, including human rights violations in Dagestan, election abuses, and crimes committed by law enforcers.
