Resident of Astrakhan Region fined for discrediting militaries

The Akhtubinsky District Court has fined Nadir Mamedov, a resident of the Astrakhan Region, by 30,000 roubles, finding him guilty of discrediting the Russian Army.

The fine was imposed for Mamedov's placing a video from Radio Liberty* in the "Odnoklassniki" social network; in the video, residents of the city of Kherson told about a shell hitting an apartment building and killing people, the "Kavkaz.Realii"** project has explained.

In court, Mamedov admitted his guilt and repented. "He explained that his act was committed by him erroneously, and asked for a punishment in the form of a warning," the ruling says.

However, the court decided that the defendant's actions "were aimed specifically at discrediting" the Russian Army.

*On December 5, 2017, the RFE/RL was included by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation into the so-called register of "foreign agents". Along with 8 other American public channels, it became the first so-called "medium foreign agent."
