Rights defender Oleg Orlov* sentenced to 2.5 years in jail

The court has sentenced Oleg Orlov*, a human rights defender, to 2.5 years of freedom deprivation, finding him guilty of discrediting the Russian Army.

Dozens of people came to the Golovinsky Court in Moscow on the day of the announcing the verdict.

Let us remind you that on February 16, the court began a re-examination of Orlov's* criminal case. The court forbade attracting defence witnesses, since his status as a foreign agent could increase the risks for those who could support him in court. He also refused to answer judge's questions. The defence claimed the bias of prosecution witnesses.

*Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
