Advocate demands medical examination of Zarema Musaeva
Zarema Musaeva was never given a medical examination after the request to release her lodged in December 2023 due to her serious health condition, his advocate has stated. The defence has demanded to explain why Musaeva was not examined.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 12, 2023, the Shali City Court denied Musaeva's CER (conditional early relief). This February, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya partially upheld the complaint against the refusal to apply CER to Musaeva and ordered the above City Court to reconsider the defence's motion. On March 5, the cassation court in Pyatigorsk reduced Musaeva's custody term by three months, down to four years and nine months.
In December 2023, Alexander Savin, her advocate, sent a petition to the court asking to release Musaeva due to her grave health condition – she has diabetes and a number of chronic diseases. As it turned out, she was never given a medical examination, which, according to the decision of the SC's Plenum, should have been done, the "Team against Torture" (TaT)* reported in its Telegram channel.
Musaeva's health condition has deteriorated significantly during her custody at the SIZO (the pre-trial prison). Last July, her defence demanded a full medical examination. Musaeva underwent some medical treatment, after which she was returned to the Grozny SIZO in August.
*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
